Education & training

Sarah has a BA honours degree in Piano Performance and Composition from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and a master’s degree in Composition from Goldsmiths, University of L College.  She is also a certified coach and qualified English language teacher.

Skills & experience

Sarah started learning the piano when she was five and studied piano performance at music college followed by a master’s degree in composition.  During her education, Sarah performed at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and enjoyed performances of her compositions by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s string quartet and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Sarah taught piano for six years, entering many students for the ABRSM exams. She supported her students to develop as performers by holding informal workshops where young pianists could play to each other in a safe and supportive environment.

In addition to being a piano teacher, Sarah has taught English as a Foreign Language across Asia and in the UK in a wide variety of settings.  Sarah now runs a successful business teaching English and offering performance anxiety coaching to non-native English speakers.

Having suffered from performance anxiety throughout her time at music college, Sarah is now passionate about helping people overcome their fears around performing.  She is a strong advocate of incorporating breathing techniques to maintain calmness and has used this effectively to help students succeed at important events.  As a certified coach, Sarah offers a coaching style of teaching whereby students are encouraged to make their own discoveries and to develop independent thinking.

Sarah believes that anyone can learn to play the piano and that all children should be able to access music lessons as part of their education.  Her other interests include walking her dog Moli who she rescued when working in China.
