Joy started learning Cornet at the age of 12, originally taught by her dad, before joining my local Salvation Army brass band and school ensembles. Joy fell in love with playing the Cornet and soon moved onto Trumpet. She joined as many bands and ensembles as she could and took Grade 8 Trumpet and Grade 6 Piano in her last year of school after achieving high grades in both GCSE and A-Level music.
Joy first started teaching in 6th form while helping out her school music teacher run a brass class project, she greatly enjoyed it and knew she wanted to teach as a career. Joy chose to study Music with Teaching at the University of Chichester and achieved an Upper Second class degree with honours. Following that she continued post graduate studies at Chichester achieving a Masters with Merit in Music Performance. Since University Joy has enjoyed teaching a range of brass instruments in many settings, offering one-to-one, small group, and whole class tuition to students in both primary and secondary education.
As a performer Joy was privileged to be the Principal Cornet of the University of Chichester brass band for 3 years. In addition her playing career has included Orchestral work, Concert Bands, Pit Bands and the occasional Wedding.
Throughout her years of playing, both in performing and teaching, Joy has developed a strong desire to share her love and passion for music and to help children and adults alike, experience the true social and psychological benefits of making music together.
