LPO Overture Day deadline soon

Do you know a young person aged 10–15 and Grade 3 to 8 standard on their orchestral instrument?

If so, they’re invited to join London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) musicians at a free LPO Junior Artists: Overture Day on Thursday 17 April at Worthing High School.

But be quick, the deadline for applications is 9am on Monday 17 March.

The LPO is a partner of Sussex Music Hub, a partnership between West Sussex Music and Create Music.

Overture days are free, fun orchestral skills days where participants play alongside LPO musicians, get tips on musicianship and find out what happens behind the scenes of a professional orchestra.

In this Overture Day the young musicians and the LPO will play music that will take them to magical, mythical lands, including extracts from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, and music from Dreamworks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon.

John Randall, Music Centres Manager for West Sussex Music said,

“The opportunities our partners provide to children and young people are musically and educationally of such a high professional standard, so we’re delighted to welcome the phenomenal team from LPO back to Worthing. Last year’s overture day with the LPO was hugely successful and we expect this April’s event to have a similar level of success. I encourage any young musician who plays an orchestral instrument from grade 3 to 8 standard to join us for this incredible free opportunity.”

The day will take place at Worthing High School, South Farm Road, Worthing, BN14 7AR from 11am – 4.30pm.

At 4pm there will be a free performance open to friends and family showcasing the pieces that have been explored.
