Even bigger sings!

Over 2,000 children took part in a recent singing project involving primary schools across West Sussex. 

Big Sings, a project overseen and organised by West Sussex Music, is an opportunity to bring together 7 to 11 year olds from multiple schools for a half-day of singing, led by a specialist singing leader. 

In total 18 events took place at various host schools which were then joined by other schools from the locality. West Sussex Music provided the resources for two performance items for each participating school to learn and perform together in a massed choir. Alongside these songs, schools performed their own choices with a backing track or live accompaniment. 

Rachel Maby, West Sussex Music’s Schools Singing Leader, said:  

“We’re proud of the support we can provide to schools at every stage of their pupils’ journey, and the reaction to Big Sings just goes to show how much the children and teachers appreciate being a part of this. We want every school to embed singing into the fabric of the school day and for teachers to know we’re there to help them.”  

At the heart of the Big Sing events was the free CPD session for primary classroom teachers who were invited to work with WSM schools singing leader Rachel Maby who shared singing warm-ups, musical games and model session plans in preparation for the event itself.    

The feedback from the workshops has been really positive and we’re already planning for next year!
