West Sussex flutes in fine tune

The West Sussex Flute Choir had a career highlight over the weekend when they performed in Brighton ahead of none other than the London Philharmonic Orchestra. 

The flute choir, headed up by West Sussex Music’s Jo Eames, performed in the foyer of Brighton Dome to concertgoers ahead of the evening performance by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. 

As a partner of Sussex Music Hub, the LPO invited the flute choir to perform as part of the ongoing partnership with West Sussex Music and Create Music.  

Whilst the flutes performed, the LPO put an Instagram post out saying,  

‘We’ve had a wonderful pre-concert performance by the fantastic flute choir from West Sussex Music, they’ve played everything from Britney to The Beatles!’ 

The students who performed were joined by other young musicians from West Sussex music centres and had the opportunity to take part in a meet and greet with the orchestra, where they got to discuss what life as a professional musician can be like.  

James Underwood, Chief Executive for West Sussex Music, said:    

“One of the many reasons we look to build strong partnerships within Sussex Music Hub is so that our students can benefit from the experiences offered, and the expertise available. This opportunity is a perfect example of giving our Flute Choir the chance to perform in public, whilst also getting to learn from the professionals. It’s a wonderful moment for them.” 

West Sussex Flute Choir is a group run by West Sussex Music that meets at Horsham Music Centre, based at Millais School, on Saturdays.
