Sing out loud
We have a host of singing opportunities taking place across West Sussex and it’s not too late to get your school signed up!
West Sussex Music oversees Sings Live! a massed singing event for children in KS3, and Little Big Sings, an opportunity for children in KS1 to participate in singing workshops, both of which are taking place soon, but opportunities for other schools remain.
Little Big Sing is our KS1 singing offer for 4-7yr olds. It brings together multiple locality schools at a host school for a half-day singing workshop, led by one of our specialist singing leaders.
The team will be visiting schools across the county including Petworth, Barnham, Worthing, East Grinstead, Lancing, Crawley and Bognor over the next month, for more information on Little Big Sings, and to get involved go here.
Big Sing is our FREE KS2 singing offer for 7–11yr olds. It brings together multiple locality schools at a host school for a half-day singing workshop, led by one of our specialist singing leaders. We provide resources for two songs for participants to learn prior to the event, which schools rehearse and perform together in a massed choir on the day. Participating schools will also be asked to perform a song of their choice with backing track or live piano/guitar accompaniment, which gives students the experience of performing to a large audience.

James Underwood, Chief Executive for West Sussex Music, said:
“West Sussex Music is known for the instrumental and orchestral opportunities that we provide for children and young people in the area, which we’re very proud of – but we’re also very proud to be bringing so many singing opportunities too.”
“We have been rebuilding our offer since the pandemic and are thrilled at the scale we can now provide. There’s so much that schools can get involved with, we consider our offer to be something many children will get enjoyment from.”
But that’s not all! We have singing opportunities across the year that come in from our hub partners and this year is no exception. In October The Sixteen is running two inspirational choir workshops for West Sussex secondary school choirs.
These massed choir sessions for students and their teachers will take place at on Wednesday 16 October at Hazelwick School, Crawley and Thursday 18 October at St Oscar Romero Catholic High School, Worthing.
The Sixteen is a performing arts charity which exists to take beautiful and inspiring choral music, from the Renaissance to today, to as wide and diverse an audience as possible.
The choir believes in the transformative power of music and their goal is to make the world a better place through performing the music of great choral heritage to the highest possible standard and making it accessible to all.
