Perfect Petworth performance

It was with great joy that the West Sussex Youth Choir performed at Petworth Festival over the weekend.

The Petworth Festival, which takes place between 10 – 27 July, features a huge range of creative performances including poetry, plays and music. This year it included a fantastic lunchtime concert by the members of the West Sussex Youth Choir.

The choir, conducted by Mark Bradbury, performed in the stunning surroundings of St Mary’s Church.

It was great to see the audience’s reaction to the wide repertoire the choir performed which ranged from contemporary pop melodies to timeless classical compositions, such as foot-stomping Pentatonix arrangements, nostalgic classics by artists like Carly Simon, Duffy, Keane, and Royal Canoe, alongside modern classics from Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen.

James Underwood, Chief Executive for West Sussex Music, attended the event.

He said: “It’s been a busy year for the choir with a singing tour to France, as well as the end of term concerts which took place last weekend at Worthing Assembly Hall. The Petworth Festival was the icing on a very successful cake this year for everyone involved with West Sussex Youth Choir, and I’m so proud to have seen them perform in such an assured and professional way.”

West Sussex Youth Choir meets as part of West Sussex Music every Saturday at Horsham Music Centre based at Millais School in Horsham.
