Junior Artists in Worthing

Young People Sit In A Semi Circle Playing In An Orchestra

A group of very lucky youngsters had the chance to play with the London Philharmonic Orchestra yesterday and got a glimpse of what it felt like to be part of one of the greatest orchestras in the world.

The LPO Junior Artists Overture Day, which took place at Worthing High School, was run by West Sussex Music partner London Philharmonic Orchestra and enabled young instrumentalists aged 10 to 15 yrs to perform with them as an ensemble.

LPO Junior Artists Overture days are free, fun orchestral skills days where participants play alongside LPO musicians as one big orchestra, get tips on musicianship in smaller group sessions, and find out what happens behind the scenes of a professional orchestra.

LPO has been a hub partner of West Sussex Music since October 2023, and the orchestra has been providing opportunities for young people to see professional musicians in action when performing at Brighton Dome. Hub partners are a way for the charity to continue to connect with national and local music educators to plan and deliver new collaborations that will increase opportunities for young people in West Sussex to experience high-quality music.

John Randall, WSM Music Centres Manager said:

“It’s been a wonderful experience for these young instrumentalists – one that they’ll never forget. Some students are already members of a group but for others this was a totally new experience; one which we hope will inspire them to join a local orchestra. My thanks go to the LPO education team for making this opportunity a possibility. Can’t wait until next year!”

If you are a young person who wants to make music with others, WSM has a wide variety of activities at our music centres around the county. Find out more here.
