A choral group from West Sussex enjoyed a tour of northern France recently when the choir visited the country to perform.

The West Sussex Youth Choir run by West Sussex Music is made up of 33 young people aged 13-21.

Every Saturday during term-time the choir meets to rehearse at the Horsham Music Centre, based at Millais School, under the musical direction of Mark Bradbury.

Traditionally the choir, which has been running for over 50 years, undertakes an overseas concert tour every two years.

Following an interruption due to the pandemic, it was gratifying to return to our regular tours with 24 young people visiting France during May half-term. During their time in Normandy the youth choir collaborated with local choirs, performing at incredible venues such as the Basilica of Sainte-Thérèse of Lisieux where they even brought some audience members to tears.

Choir member, Isaac, said:

“I’ve had an absolute blast, it’s been so much fun, we’ve made so many new friends, had some free time, made friends with the French choir – I would definitely recommend it. One of my favourite parts was when I got to perform with the French choir.”

As well as performing, the choir had an opportunity to be tourists by visiting Rouen and Honfleur and took part in activities such as table tennis and football.

There’s always room for more members of the choir. If you’re a singer between 13 and 21 who wants more information go here.
