We need you!
Do you know a young person aged 14-19 who is interested in the future of music?
Would they be interested in being a part of an exciting opportunity at West Sussex Music?
For the last year WSM has had six enthusiastic young people from across the county engaged as part of the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) and now there are more spaces available!
To have their voice heard about the provision of music in the county and what they’d like to see as the future of music, young people who are interested need to fit the following criteria –
- Be aged 14-19 (25 SEN/D)
- Live in West Sussex
- Either play a musical instrument or be part of a musical group or organisation, such as a choir or band
- Be able to attend six online meetings spread across the year
That’s it!
Don’t just take our word for it though. Here’s one of the members of the board, with how they feel about being involved.
“You should join the Youth Advisory Board to not only get you and friends within WSM service’s ideas heard, and improve our music service but also to gain confidence, improve your college application or CV and meet like-minded, musical people. There is a mix of opportunities from chairing a meeting to collaborating on a video!”
They added, “I love the meetings, they are friendly, relaxed and lead by us. We are allowed to go off and work on ideas individually or as a team, it’s a great environment!”
James Underwood, Chief Executive for West Sussex Music, said:
“The way we learn and enjoy music is ever evolving and to ensure we’re delivering it in the way that young people expect, and wish, is incredibly important. The best way we can do this is by listening to young people and involving them in decision making.”
YAB members are expected to serve for two years, but this can be discussed on application.
