Springing into success
It was a day of debut performances and delighted parents and carers as young musicians joined together from West Sussex Music’s centres to perform.
The spring presentation, held at the Horsham Music Centre, based in Millais School on Depot Road, Horsham, took place on Saturday 23 March.
Taking to the stage for the first time were musicians from Orchestras Inc. our inclusive, creative music group for children and young people under 25 with special educational needs or disabilities.
Another debut performance came from more than 100 primary-aged performers who are all members of the Tomorrow’s Orchestra Programme, which meets at four music centres. This was the first time many had performed in front of an audience, and the first time they performed together as an orchestra as part of this exciting one year programme. It has been created as a fast-track route from absolute beginner to confident musician within a few short months and includes live performances.
Other performances on the day included the West Sussex Training String Orchestra, West Sussex Training Wind Orchestra, West Sussex Young Voices, Hi5 – Elementary Winds, and Drum Lab.
John Randall, Music Centres Manager for West Sussex Music said,
“Our presentations are an absolute highlight in our calendar and act as a valuable opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have achieved during the term. It’s a perfect time for all of us to stop and listen to each other and enjoy what others are creating, as well as celebrating how far everyone has progressed.
“It was wonderful to see our students, such as the Tomorrow’s Orchestra, performing when they’ve only been learning for 10 weeks. To know we’re building their confidence and skills to a point they can perform for a live audience is truly amazing.”
West Sussex Music and its partners provide numerous musical opportunities for children and young people both in and out of school time.
